چکیده

In recent years, real-time operating systems began to support the resource reservation paradigm. This technique has proved to be very effective in providing QoS to both, real-time and legacy applications, ensuring that the temporal misbehavior of an application does not affect any other (temporal isolation). However, resource sharing in a reservation system is still not well understood, and can break the temporal isolation property due to priority inversion [3]. In this paper, we address such a problem, presenting some solution strategies that can be considered extensions to Priority Inheritance and Priority Ceiling or Priority Ceiling Protocol emulation for reservation systems.

Grid Computing Systems and Combinatorial Optimization

The goal of this paper is to study the applicability of a combinatorial optimization model in grid resource optimization. The advent of grid computing and demand for QoS guarantees call for a need of advance reservation mechanisms in order to coordinate resource sharing between autonomous partners. This term means the guarantee of providing specific resources at a specific time. The paper assum...

Performance of Multi-beam Satellite Systems With A New Bandwidth Sharing Algorithm

An efficient resource allocation is important to guarantee the best performance with a fair distribution of multi-beam satellite capacity to provide satellite multimedia and broadcasting services. In this way, available bandwidth and capacity problems in new satellite system likes Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO), exploring new techniques for enhancing spectral efficiency in satellite communicat...

Priority-driven spatial resource sharing scheduling for embedded graphics processing units

Many visual tasks in modern personal devices such smartphones resort heavily to graphics processing units (GPUs) for their fluent user experiences. Because most GPUs for embedded systems are nonpreemptive by nature, it is important to schedule GPU resources efficiently across multiple GPU tasks. We present a novel spatial resource sharing (SRS) technique for GPU tasks, called a budget-reservati...

Performance evaluation of resource reservation and call admission policies for deterministic services in PGPS-based packet networks

We address the issue of reserving resources at packet switches along the path of calls requiring a deterministic bound on end-to-end delay. The switches are assumed to schedule outgoing packets using the Packet-by-Packet Generalized Processor Sharing (PGPS) scheduling discipline. We propose an algorithm for call admission control (CAC) and a number of resource reservation policies that are used...

Efficient End-Host Resource Management with Kernel Optimizations for Multimedia Applications

Multimedia applications have timing requirements that cannot be satisfied using time-sharing scheduling algorithms of general operating systems. Our approach is to provide for a resource reservation mechanism to cater to the real-time resource requirement[5] of multimedia applications. We propose the design of a Resource Manager which allocates and manages the end-host resources among the proce...
